Welcome to the Treasure Valley’s premier REVOLVER SPECIALTY CLASS!
Summary

Dear REVOLVER owners:

We love you!  And to prove it, we’re flipping the script for this class: “No SEMI-AUTOMATIC handguns allowed!  REVOLVERS ONLY!”

In your sincere quest to become a responsible armed defender, you have probably found that modern “handgun” and “pistol” classes are almost universally disappointing.  By and large, instruction heavily favors semi-automatics like Glocks and Sigs and Walthers, while revolvers hardly receive passing mention in the classroom.  On the range, your instructor likely places you at the far end of the line where you can be essentially ignored and tacitly expected to “keep up.”  Although you paid the same tuition as everyone else, worked just as hard during the class, and care just as much about protecting your loved ones, you walk away from class with far less marginal enlightenment than your semi-auto-wielding classmates.

Let’s fix that for you, and get you the specialized revolver training you need and deserve!

The fact is, revolvers and semi-automatics are different animals.  Attending a semi-auto class expecting to learn a great deal about revolvers will be about as productive (which is to say, not very) as attending a revolver class expecting to learn a great deal about semi-autos.  Among the many points of significant distinction between the two are operation, loading and unloading, trigger technique, equipment, ammo selection, and maintenance.

Here, the revolver is king!

Topics
  • What is a revolver?
  • How do revolvers work?
  • Overview of revolver history and development
  • What are the pros and cons to revolvers when compared to semi-automatics?
  • Essential equipment: proper gun belts, holsters, speed-loaders, speed-loader pouches, speed-strips, a toothbrush*
  • Accessories and customization: grips, sights, de-horning/bobbing
  • Ammo selection
  • Maintenance and repair: very different from semi-autos
Venue
  • Classroom: in Meridian, near I-84 and Eagle Road.  Enrolled students will receive an email 7-10 days prior to class with final details, including classroom address.
  • Range: George W. Nourse Public Range-Nampa
What to Bring
  • Your DOUBLE-ACTION revolver, in safe working order
    • Please transport your revolver in a case of some sort—NOT in your bare hands!
  • A good gun belt.  We use and recommend the excellent products from KORE Essentials.  We sell them here and can help you set them up prior to class; some cutting and assembly of the belt is required.
    • Even that hefty leather belt you bought at the farm store will not be up to the task.  Please bring a real-deal, honest-to-goodness gun belt!
  • A good holster—preferably “outside the waistband” (aka, “OWB”)—made specifically for your revolver
    • We recommend you check offerings from Safariland, Speed-Beez, and Comp-Tac.
    • Leather or plastic (Kydex or Boltaron) are fine
    • Your holster MUST cover the entire trigger guard, and MUST stay open for easy one-handed re-holstering!  You will not be allowed to participate in class if your holster does not meet these requirements!
    • When purchasing a holster—most likely online—be sure your order reflects not only your revolver’s make and model, but also barrel length, how many rounds it can hold, and the chambering (.38 Special, .357 Magnum, etc.).
  • At least three speed-loaders.  These are specific to your gun and its chambering.
    • We suggest you check Speed-Beez and Safariland (especially the Comp 3) for a wide variety of well-regarded products.
  • At least one speed-strip
    • We like TUFF Products “QuickStrips” for low price, high quality, and a variety of configurations
    • If your revolver holds five, six, or seven rounds, order speed-strips that hold eight.
  • A pouch (or pouches) sufficient to allow you to have at least three speed-loaders on you at all times
  • 200 rounds, minimum, of ammunition for your revolver
    • We highly recommend the American Eagle products, made in the USA by Federal.  Imported ammo may not function in your revolver, for reasons we will explain in class!
    • HAND-LOADED or RE-LOADED ammunition presents too many safety questions and is NOT PERMITTED.
    • STEEL AMMUNITION will damage our range equipment and is NOT PERMITTED.
  • Eye protection, such as specialized shooting glasses or ANSI-rated safety glasses from a hardware store
    • If you do not have eye protection, no worries—we’ve got you covered with loaners at no charge!
  • Electronic ear protection.  Can be in-ear or over-the-ear (muffs).  Electronic ear protection allows you to hear range dialog and commands while still protecting you from the harmful sound of gun blasts.
    • If you do not have electronic ear protection, no worries—we’ve got you covered with loaners at no charge!
  • A toothbrush.  (Yes, really.  Come find out why!)
    • New, or used but clean.  This will not be going back into service for dental hygiene purposes!
Class Policies
  • All adult MoD students must submit a photo of their current driver’s license or other state or federal ID prior to class.  This is used for class security, for accuracy on certificates, and for our records.
  • Each class session must meet or exceed a minimum enrollment “tipping point” in order to proceed as planned.  Low enrollment may result in cancellation or re-scheduling, so please invite your friends to sign up too!
  • For medical reasons, we do not allow pregnant women to participate in our live-fire exercises.  If you wish to sign up for this class, please do—but kindly let us find a time outside of the term of your pregnancy to complete the range activities.  You will not be charged extra for this service.
